This is all true. Science

My man crush on Neil deGrasse Tyson only grows with these dope pictures of him in his prime. How badass is this dude. Tell me he wasn’t crushing it at Harvard. Science

I love charts. Neil deGrasse Tyson pointed this out in a lecture where he got irate at the Presidents choice to cut NASA funding. That blue bar is the total. TOTAL spending of NASA over the last 50+ years compared to the 2011 spending of the military in red and my little dark green bottom of the far left NIH spending in 2011. Science

HIV Cure: A Brave New World

As a researcher and formerly one of HIV this is tremendously encouraging. Science

I sit most days at a medical school operating on mice for the sake of mankind. In my head this argument is the din over low drone of the HEPA filtered air circulating around the OR. Thanks edsbs

There is no reason I have to have this, buuuuuuut SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. Science.

I have no idea how I’ll use this but I must have it. Shut up and take my money. Science

Badass foxes use earth’s magnetic field to hunt prey. Science.

Researchers noticed that, when not appearing in charming anthropomorphic fables, foxes in the Northern Hemisphere preferred to pounce on hidden animals while facing exactly 20 degrees off from magnetic north. We know that lots of animals, from cows to bees, can sort of navigate using the Earth’s invisible fields of energy, but no other animal, to our knowledge, uses it to hunt. After observing over 600 fox strikes, the evidence clearly shows that they prefer a northeasterly attack vector. When launching an attack against hidden prey from this direction, a fox’s kill rate was a whopping 73 percent. From the exact opposite direction, it was 60 percent. Attacks not issued on this invisible axis at all fell to a pitiful 18 percent success rate. How, exactly, the fox manages this feat is still up for debate, but the leading theory is that they use the Earth’s magnetic field in conjunction with their hearing to line up the target in a sort of biological crosshair.

I have a major man crush on Neil Degrasse Tyson. Bronx raised, Harvard student-athelete, Columbia PhD and gold medal winning Latin Ballroom Dancer for the University of Texas Dance Team (Seriously).

I think that for the most part it is because science and medicine have such a glaring paucity of well spoken, charismatic leaders. The majority of them getting to their position in life by sticking their heads in books and beakers and not martini glasses and their secretaries chest. This allows for dipshit politicians who are, if nothing, well spoken and charismatic, say things like “legitimate rape” and believe their own bullshit. Tyson is passionate, loud, remarkably intelligent and makes me want to be a better scientist.

While the vast majority of his material on the interwebs is astrophysics based, it is interesting to see this about religion.

Nikola Tesla is a badass. I recently saw this Oatmeal comic of him (BTW, the Oatmeal is amazing) and fully realized what Tesla contributed to society but also the divide between he and Edison. He is the House of Elms badass of the week. Science.
